E is for Eliminated...Utah's Officially Out of Playoff Race
SLC Puck in your inbox! Issue #13 - Monday, 4/7/25
Hey Puckers,
Well, the frickin’ San Jose Sharks — yes, the last-place San Jose Sharks, couldn’t get the job done last night. Becuase Minnesota Wild to take their game to overtime and then won, despite a valiant comeback effort by the Sharks, the Utah Hockey Club became officially eliminated from the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoff picture.
It sucks, but honestly there are many positives. From Day One, we were told that this was a team on the rise. The goal was not to make the playoffs and win a Stanley Cup — although I guess that is the goal, let’s just say it wasn’t realistic. The more grounded and realistic goal was to play competitive hockey games late in the year and that’s just what the Utah Hockey Club did. It wasn’t until Utah had played 78 games that it was eliminated from the playoffs. The Club was in it until nearly the very end. I’m sure that feels like a huge achievement.
I’m proud of the boys.

Playoff Standings — there’s that dreaded ‘e’:
Recent Results:
🏒 Tuesday, April 8: vs. Seattle Kraken ✅ W, 7-1
Upcoming Games:
🏒 Thursday, April 10: vs. Nashville Predators
🏒 Saturday, April 12: at Dallas Stars
Player of the Week: The whole team, really. They gave fans a show to remember over this last home stand, playing hard and being the better team on the ice for 3.5 of the 4 games so far — the Kings were the better team in the second half of the 4-2 loss last week. Utah’s win over Seattle on Tuesday, with seven different goal scorers was pretty damn satisfying.
Quick Take: Utah’s out of the playoff race, like I’ve said 4 times already.
