Hey Puckers,
My deepest apologies for getting this newsletter out a day late. I’m sure all of you were really thrown off balance all day yesterday. Some of you may have even checked the police reports to see if anything horrible had happened to me.
Well, rest your troubled head. I am fine. My explanation: Why should I give you one? It’s a free newsletter, feel lucky you’re getting anything at all. I kid. I was up early working on renovations to SLC Puck Studios.
Renovations are popping up all over the Salt Lake Valley, not just in my mom’s basement. Perhaps most notably, at the Delta Center. That news dominated the local hockey conversation this week. But lest we forget, there’s also some playoff hockey going on as well, albeit, not involving the Utah Hockey Club. I’ll get you caught up. Keep reading
Sorry I’m late.
Love, Austin

But if you haven’t been playing attention so far, here’s a quick matchup-by-matchup look:
Winnipeg-St. Louis, tied 2-2
Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck, unquestionably the best goaltender in the NHL this year, seems to be haunted by some postseason demons. He gave up 12 goals in Games 3 & 4.
Dallas-Colorado, Stars lead 3-2
These teams have been going blow for blow. Colorado was my Stanley Cup pick, which sucks. Getting Gabriel Landeskog back on the ice after a three-year absence gave the Avs a bit of an emotional boost Stars team, but Dallas has Colorado on the ropes.
Vegas-Minnesota, tied 2-2
Minnesota’s Kirill Kaprizov and Matt Boldy have been electric. Vegas is in trouble if they can’t slow these guys down.
Los Angeles-Edmonton, tied 2-2
LA had a chance to seal Game 4 and take a 3-1 lead, but allowed a goal in the last minute by Edmonton. Could be a turning point in the series.
Toronto-Ottawa, Maple Leafs lead 3-1
I picked the Sens to upset the Leafs in 7 — and then of course, Toronto took a 3-0 series lead. But it’s not over until it’s over, right? Right?
Florida-Tampa Bay, Panthers lead 3-1
This season is getting extremely physical, almost to the point of being dirty. Well, not almost.
Washington-Montreal, Capitals lead 3-1
This series has given us the most meme worthy moment of the season, so that’s been terrific.
Carolina-New Jersey, Hurricanes lead 3-1
Honestly, this has been the least dramatic series. The rest have been so good and at times, hilarious.
